1. Atrani Beach

Although it is a very small village, Atrani overlooks the sea and has a truly fabulous beach! Made of sand and pebbles, it is also one of the best for families with children, as I explained more in this article. Also, from here you can go straight to the center and visit it-it's really a treat!

2. Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maddalena

Built in 1274 on the remains of an ancient watchtower, the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maddalena in Atrani overlooks the sea of the Coast. The white facade is a magnificent example of Rococo architecture and is flanked by a brown tuff bell tower that stands out over the town, along with the colorful tiled dome.

3. Church of San Salvatore de Birecto

The church of San Salvatore de Birecto was used as a palatine chapel during the time of the Duchy of Amalfi. It is in fact very old: dating back to 940, it has a neoclassical facade and inside it preserves a very elegant loggia formed by an interweaving of arches and slender columns.

4. Sanctuary of Santa Maria del Bando

So called for being the site of a proclamation of public announcements, the sanctuary is located on an elevated position on Mount Aureo. Legend has it that it was erected as a vow by a man who was saved from the gallows by a miracle of the Virgin Mary. A place with a truly fascinating history!

5. Masaniello's Grotto

Next to the Sanctuary of Santa Maria del Bando is another place of interest surrounded by an aura of mystery: this is the Grotto of Masaniello. According to tradition, this was in fact the last hiding place of the Neapolitan rebel, who was killed in 1647.

  • Legend has it that the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maddalena was built by the people of Atrani to thank the Saint for freeing them from Saracen occupation.
