1. The Cathedral
Salerno Cathedral is the city's main place of worship: dedicated to St. Matthew, the patron saint celebrated on September 21, it is a magnificent example of Romanesque architecture. In fact, it dates back to the 11th century: the portal leads into a large four-sided portico surrounded by a colonnade with round arches, surmounted by a splendid loggia with mullioned windows. Not to be missed!

2. The monumental complex of San Pietro a Corte
A splendid testimony to Lombard palatial architecture in Salerno, the Monumental Complex of San Pietro a Corte was commissioned by Arechi II and was built on the remains of a Roman-era building. An unmissable stop for all history and archaeology enthusiasts!

3. The waterfront promenade and the Villa Comunale
Salerno's beautiful seafront promenade is the ideal place to stroll and breathe sea air: this is also the center of city life in the summer, as it is busy and close to many clubs and restaurants. Besides, within walking distance of the waterfront is the Villa Comunale, an enclosed garden designed by architect Casalbore in the 1800s, which is home to many Mediterranean plants and statues of Italian patriots.

4. Arechi's Castle
Another evidence of the city's Lombard past, the castle was commissioned by Arechi II and was part of a defensive system. Today it houses a museum open to the public.

5. Street Art
In a Salerno neighborhood called “Rione delle Fornelle”, the “Muri d’Autore” project has been carried out, with the aim of using street art and poetry to beautify and upgrade some city corners. A beautiful example of how art can improve urban centers!

6. The Minerva Garden
The Minerva Garden is a very old botanical garden, dating back to the 12th century. It played an important role for Master Matteo Silvatico's Medieval Medical School and today houses gardens organized on terraces, connected by pools and canals. An enchanting place!

7. The medieval aqueduct
